Step 1 - Getting Started

Your Initial Evaluation is a focused, one-on-one session to uncover what’s impacting your (or your child’s) speech.
Whether it’s unclear articulation, tongue thrust, or poor oral motor habits, we’ll identify the root cause and outline a personalized plan.

This session lays the foundation for lasting progress — so you can move forward with confidence, knowing exactly what’s needed to support clearer, stronger speech.

Why Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy?

Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy is used to Remediate Tongue Thrust and Myofunctional Disorders

Orofacial Myofunctional Therpay involves oral motor exercises to establish neuromuscular re-patterning of the tongue and facial muscles to achieve proper function for speech, chewing, swallowing and oral rest posture.

Orofacial Myofunctional Disorders (OMDs)

OMDs develop due to atypical, incorrect patterns of the tongue and facial muscles involved in speech, breathing and swallowing, such as:

  • Tongue resting on or between teeth

  • Tongue thrust

  • Thumb sucking

  • Nail and cheek biting

  • Open mouth rest posture

Other disorders related to or contributed by OMDs

  • Speech sound errors (e.g. lisp)

  • Misalignment of teeth (malocclusion)
